BEST KNOWN…

for her highly customized interiors laced with a touch of fantasy, New York City based designer Kelly Behun cites an approach focused on evoking emotion rather than conveying era or style. This detailed yet unbound mindset has rendered her one of New York’s most sought after designers, and possibly the perfect choice to breathe warmth and life into the model penthouse at Manhattan’s new 432 Park Avenue tower.

DESIGNED BY…

Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly, 432 Park Avenue soars 1,396 feet above the streets of New York City, crowning it the tallest residential tower in the western hemisphere. It was just this distinction that, along with the architect’s sensitive interior architecture, piqued Behun’s interest – luring her to the stunning heights of the 92nd floor, where she would create a retreat inspired by her own city as viewed from an entirely new vantage point.

BOASTING…

framed out views of such iconic landmarks as the Empire State building, the Chrysler Building, the World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty, Behun gave a nod to the penthouse’s breathtaking surrounds by building out a warm, hazy material palette to match.

THE MAIN…

living area is infused with art deco references, beginning with the fireplace wall that now doubles as a canvas for a custom work of art by Yolande Milan Batteau. The floor to ceiling piece, done in polished plaster and fine gold inlay, is based on an art deco-inspired sketch by Behun.

SERVING…

as a grounding balance to the apartment’s overall ethereal views and vibe, Behun carved out a chocolatey lounge area in dark wood built-ins and luxe velvet seating.

THE MASTER…

TO ROUND…

out the soothing color scheme in the rest of the apartment, Behun collaborated with Calico Wallpaper to bring in a dose of rich color in the form of a custom blue and white wallcovering, inspired by the Japanese dyeing technique of shibori. The end effect couldn’t be more apt – wrapping up a truly heavenly space that’s just a touch away from the clouds.
