Anthony Howe Barneys Holiday Window

‘Tis the season of transformation here in Manhattan, as the major retailers clamor for you attention (and business) with over the top events, spectacular decorations, and of course, those holiday windows. For many a New Yorker, the unveiling of these glassed-in fantasy worlds marks the beginning of the season and for the holiday enthusiasts among us, make “the most wonderful time of the year” just a little more magical. A few standouts from this year’s displays include Hermès’, whith windows decked in Christopher Boots’ crystal lighting; Bergdorf Goodman, sporting an over-the-top arts theme; and Barney’s, with its action-packed/live theater approach

But while there are many options, holding it down as DPAGES’s 2014 holiday display darling, is the BEAUTY window at Barneys 61st and Madison flagship store. Realized by artist Anthony Howe, the exhibit showcases “The Spirits of the Snow Star” represented by five handmade kinetic sculptures powered by wind machines. This is the first interior application of Howe’s work and the results are nothing short of mesmerizing. For those in the market, the five Snow Stars will be available for purchase as a group following the holiday season. As for the rest of us, the sculptures will be on view through December 31st. Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!
