The world’s largest design event wrapped up last Saturday and we’re eyeball deep in sorting our favorite finds for your viewing pleasure. To ease our way into the beautiful madness, we’re kicking off this year’s Milan Design Week coverage with an ethereal moment of zen, courtesy of design firm Nendo

THE JELLYFISH VASE…

made its debut at the Jil Sander shop, in all its sea creature like glory – delicately floating, wiggling, and jiggling its way into visitors hearts.

NENDO EXPLAINS…

“The design was to redefine the conventional roles of flower, water, and vase by making the water inconspicuous, with an ensemble of both flowers and vases floating inside the filled water, as opposed to simply showing off flowers in a water-filled vase.”

To achieve their goal, the design firm created 30 ultra thin silicon vessels dyed twice in varying shades of blue / purple. Each barely there creation was then placed in a 1800 mm aquarium filled to the brim with flowing water, which was carefully choreographed to achieve the perfect undulating effect on its inhabitants. The result is a fascinating installation bringing life to the inanimate, and expanse to boundaries.
