Set in a small boutique that exudes the kind of charm you’d expect from a mid-century era mom and pop shop, lies the workshop/showroom/boutique of one of Montréal’s hottest lighting studios – Lambert & Fils. Founded by former video editor Samuel Lambert, the shop was initially established to store, sell and tinker with Lambert’s unwieldy mid-century furnishing collection. In the beginning, Lambert refurbished existing lighting, which led to building new pieces from vintage parts and later to designing his own from scratch.
Today Lambert & Fils operates on a studio-based model where founder Samuel Lambert collaborates with a talented and ever growing staff to create a vast array of unique and custom made fixtures. As for inspiration… Lambert cites Christian Dell (1893-1974) and Serge Mouille (1922-1988) as personal go tos. Echoes of these Bauhaus and modern masters are evident not only in a number of Lambert’s signature pieces but also in the company’s latest business venture – a hot off the presses collection of handmade lighting available through the Canada based furniture chain Mobilia. The new line of six fixtures (shown at top) is also available through the still time-capsule-like Lambert & Fils shop on Montréal’s rapidly gentrifying Rue Beaubien between Mile End and Little Italy.
OF NOTE: For those who inquired about the chandelier shown in DPAGES recent Masculine Bedrooms post… it is none other than Lambert & Fils’ customizable ATOMIUM!
