MICHELLE JAMES: a lighting collection where past meets present

Meet my latest discovery! With over 20 years of experience as a stylist and designer, the Brooklyn based Michelle James has held past (and current) job titles as far ranging as jewelry designer, fashion designer, personal stylist, interior designer, and most recently, lighting designer. The impetus for the beauties you see here began in 2008 when Michelle, her husband and young son Gray embarked on the extensive renovation of an historic 1899 Brooklyn brownstone. In search of the perfect lighting fixtures to complement both her classic simple design aesthetic and her home’s historic style – necessity quickly became the mother of invention – when Michelle took matters into her own hands, designing the fixtures herself.

In 2010, bolstered by rave reviews on her display at BKLYN Designs, Michelle launched her eponymously named company, Michelle James. A combination of brass in various finishes, crystal and vintage re-purposed glass, all lit up by an endless array of bulb styles – Michelle’s jewelry like, one-of-a-kind lighting line continues to grow as she works hand in hand with skilled local craftsmen. Love them!
