Mirja Pitkaart Comb

Mirja Pitkäärt is an Estonian designer based in Paris. Following her studies in leather design at the Estonian Academy of Arts, and textile design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna – Pitkäärt graduated from the MA Fashion Artefact program at the London College of Fashion (2014). This same year, Pitkäärt received the prestigious Accessories Collection of the Year award from the International Talent Support competition in Trieste, Italy.

Shown here is her 2014, London College of Fashion final project, Objects of Enduring Value. The aim of the line was to re-imagine the forms of common every-day items and imbue them with long term value via a focus on well aging materials and rewarding haptic forms. Using a combination of African blackwood, maple wood, modelboard, leather, and paper, Pitkäärt employed both traditional and modern manufacturing techniques such as CNC milling. D thinks the results are fascinating. Especially that gorgeously chubby comb!
