How scrumptious are these candy like crystalline creations by Manhattan based artist and designer, Phillip Low? Originally from Vancouver British Columbia, Low began his career as a fashion stylist in London. From there he went on to obtain his BA from the renowned St. Martin’s School of Art, only to move to Manhattan where he began working in the field of product design. Not long thereafter, his stylist and design backgrounds melded with his love of fine art, accessories and plastics to inspire the mesmerizing sculptures you see here.
Each prism is hand milled from sheets of Perspex and acrylic. Geometric angles, color and texture (each surface alternates between smooth and rough) are all carefully choreographed to achieve stunning optical effects when the object interacts with light.
It is the combined effects of the attributes mentioned above, that not only call out for user interaction, but also result in an ever changing objet d’art.
For those in the U.S., Low’s sculptures are available through Totokaelo and range in price from $550 – $750. At a slightly lower price point ($45 – $65), Low also produces limited edition prints of his sculptures available through Maryam Nassir Zadeh and lenticular prints ($215) available through Phillips.
For our friends overseas, Low’s work is also available through Pieces of Eight and Phillips.
