Timeless Living in a Sag Harbor Home | DPAGES

DESIGNER…

Maureen Winter McDermott cut her design teeth in New York City with a masters degree from the New York School of Interior Design and a subsequent employ under the talented eye of designer Vicente Wolf. Today, she heads her own high end interiors firm out of a charming storefront on the historic streets of Sag Harbor, Long Island.

A MAJOR…

whaling and shipping port in the 1800s, the historic town now serves host to year round and summer residents alike. With its old-world architecture and laid back beachy charm, the area provides the perfect setting for Winter McDermott’s passion for timeless architectural detail and approachable relaxed interiors.

STANDING…

as an apt canvas is Winter McDermott’s most recent project located just a stone’s throw from her headquarters. Once an old farmhouse, the now family-of-four home was in need of an update. The goal of the project was to open up the ground floor to create a sense of “light airiness” all while respecting the original details that made the home unique.

THE DESIGN…

team’s approach highlighted existing architectural details and underscored a sense of flow from one space to the next via a cohesive palette of soft neutrals. Pre-existing elements including original windows, trims, and knotty wood floors were maintained, while organic sisal rugs, luxury textiles, and iconic furnishings imbue the interiors with a contemporary gravitas.

WINTER…

McDermott made sure to give a nod to her client’s well curated collection of objects which she was able to build around. The final mix features a richly textured interior punctuated with notable mid-century pieces, beginning with Hans Wegner’s 1957-designed dining chairs and wrapping with a pair of Marco Zanuso’s 1960s armchairs around a coffee table designed by Charlotte Perriand in 1962.
