SCULPTURES: Living & Large

For those in search of something tall, green, and sculptural for their interior… you’re in luck! Flora Grubb, landscape designer and owner of a San Fran. nursery, has compiled a manageable list of trees which adapt well to an indoor environment. In other words, these pretties maintain their green year round, tolerate dry air, pests, tight root quarters, and lower light levels. Most require watering once a week and can reach heights of over 8 feet. Shown (top left to bottom right): 1. Ficus lyrata in a Miami home designed by Joe Serrins, 2. the Chinese palm Rhapis multifida, aka the finger palm, 3. Afrocarpus gracilior, a fern pine evergreen tree, 4. Ficus maclellandii ‘Allii’, 5. Howea forsteriana, the Kentia Palm, 6- Schefflera actinophylla, a 70′s favorite with shiny apple green leaves. via
