At this year’s Vienna Design Week, London and Hamburg based designer Julia Lohmann was invited to present her work at “Laboratory”. Laboratory is an event where a select group of designers work on their wares in public and Julia was there working in her material of choice – seaweed – or more specifically kelp. D took a trip to Julia’s website to view more of her work in this fascinating medium and discovered that Julia has not only created sewn and laser cut lamps and objet d’art in seaweed, but she has also developed the first ever seaweed veneer (shown on the bench above)! How innovative?! Stay tuned for much more from Miss Julia as she is soon to begin a residency at the Victoria&Albert Museum.
