Modern Zen Kitchen | DPAGES

KIEV-BASED…

architecture / design lab Z. River. Studio has visualized a zen-inspired apartment high above the Manhattan skyline. They describe the project as a reaction to a noisy, overpopulated environment cluttered with digital and material excess… it’s about “introversion, digital detox, reflections on purity, mindfulness of choice… think[ing] about what surrounds us and who we are.”

Modern Dining Space by Z. River. Studio | DPAGES

The 120 square meter space is bifurcated by a wall of steel framed glass reminiscent of traditional Japanese shoji, while the main kitchen combines high tech materials with contemporary furnishings in a mix that feels as much old world Asia as it does futuristic New York.

The kitchen table is by Cassina, the Swan Chairs are by Rick Owens, and the pendant light is by Wästberg.

The futuristic theme is carried through to the living room where technogenic metal walls offer moments of self consideration in their hazy reflections. Furnishings evoke a space-age landscape, with an On the Rocks sofa by Edra playing off a Roly Poly Chair by Faye Toogood, a cactus sculpture, and a colorful Org table by Cappellini.

Eclectic White Bathroom | DPAGES

The studio’s reflections on purity and mindfulness carry through to the private quarters with a neutral toned bath featuring Pierre Jeanneret’s iconic Kangaroo Chair, Vibia’s North Floor Lamp, and Hendrik Kerstens’ 2007 “Bag” portrait.

Minimal Modern Bedroom | DPAGES

The neutral color scheme of the apartment continues into the master bedroom in a mix of natural woven materials and sleek man-made metallics. In the far corner, an Ekstrem Lounge Chair, Destroyers side table, and 1950s Alvar Aalto lamp serve to punctuate the serene space in the most minimal way possible – all while framing its remove from a frenetic city below.
