To view this recent renovation of an historical Ghent home by the Belgium-based Hans Verstuyft Architecten is to feel something truly special. While the firm cites strong roots in a conditions-based analysis of program, site, budget, light… they also place equal importance on the more subjective, sense-based qualities of comfort, warmth, touch and just general feeling. As Verstuyft puts it, “Our inspiration is to think sober, to reduce. We think architecture is to last, and to give living new opportunities for each generation. Future buildings must have a soul that inspires the users and invites them to live…” Prepare to be inspired!
