Plain English Kitchen Design

The UK-based founders of Plain English describe themselves as traditionalists. “We make kitchens the old fashioned way, by hand. Larders and laundries, sculleries and pantries; rooms defined by the dignity of utility, crafted from the best possible materials and infused with a unique sense of style.” Today, a near quarter century after their founding, this ethos of simple yet meticulous craftsmanship has garnered Plain English an avid demand and following in the US. So much so, that they’ve recently set up their first US-based design studio right here in New York. In celebration of the event, we thought we’d share one of their most recent projects – a charming little kitchen nestled in a converted London schoolhouse…

WORKING WITH…

a combination of styles, the kitchen uses Plain English’s Spitalfields line of cupboards along the room’s edge, while opting for the Osea range for the island. Other highlights include Carrara tile and counters, an arabescatto marble island top, an artfully placed pendant light by Ladies & Gentleman Studio, and elegant brass fixtures and fittings.
