Inspired by nature and the famed artist Alexander Calder (1998-1976), Missouri based artist Chuck Kubba took up mobile making full time just three years ago following a 25 year career as a jeweler. Today he exhibits and offers his finely balanced kinetic works of art through a variety of locales, including galleries and most accessibly through Comometalworks on Etsy.

In an interview with his local newspaper, the Columbia Daily Tribune, he cites nature as a muse but emphasizes his affinity for the “mechanical part” of his work. “The key thing is starting from the bottom and working your way up. If you tried to start at the top, you would never be able to balance the thing… There’s some old line, ‘If you really want to curse someone, have them build a mobile from the top down.’ ”

Kubba’s Etsy reviews are pretty fantastic and with prices ranging from around $85-$600 … they appear to be an extremely worthy and cool alternative the standard stationary sculptures and wall hung art.
