The Switzerland art and design university, ECAL, has recently wrapped up its annual collaboration with the famed luxury silverware manufacturer Christofle, and the fruits of this year’s labor yielded one shining beauty I just had to share. ‘Shaggy’, by Master of Advanced Studies Design For Luxury and Craftsmanship student, Chia-Yun-Lee, is an exploration in bi-materiality and the goal was to introduce a secondary material into Cristofle’s silver.
The resultant office accessory you see here was created in the same manner as a paintbrush – where a silver base gathers and condenses the hairs of the brush firmly enough to allow it to serve as a support matrix for your office implements.
Christofle created a prototype of Shaggy but it is not currently available for sale :(. Words cannot describe how much I want this bristly little gem, so if it does become available, I will be sure to let you know.
