Lee West Objects Carl Aubock

This December, notable Paris-based designer Lee West debuted a new line of brass objects handcrafted at the famed Carl Auböck workshops in Vienna (Est. 1900). As West explains, “Whilst looking in vintage design stores in Vienna I discovered particular objects that appealed to my sensibilities. The objects in question were designed by Carl Auböck the prominent Austrian modernist. On my next trip to Vienna I went to the Auböck shop to get a better look at his work. Amazingly I was greeted by Carl Auböck IV himself. We instantly started to exchange about design, its values, the importance of craftsmanship and he invited me to visit his workshop and archives. The outcome of this encounter is our first Lee West Objects collection produced at the Carl Auböck workshops.”

The new collection is comprised of a series of starkly simple, yet high quality brass objects based on the repetition of a single cylindrical form. While West has produced designs for the likes of Ligne Roset, Staub and Hermès, this is his first independant collection. The full line is currently available through Lee West Objects. Each piece bears the mark of both the designer and maker, Lee West and Auböck.
