Founded in 1948 by Edith Heath, Heath Ceramics is one of the few mid-century America potteries still in existence today. In fact, the company’s iconic tableware and tile are still made in small runs in the same way they have been since 1948 – rendering Heath’s product line one of the most enduring examples of mid-century design. Today’s spotlight is on a few D favorites from Heath’s Summer 2013 Seasonal Collection, available in limited quantities from April 1 – October 1, 2013. That little Bud Vase above is my absolute favorite. Beyond gorgeous!

Heath’s twice a year seasonal collections are rooted in Heath’s classic design forms but provide an opportunity for creative exploration into glaze development and technique.  The focus of this season? You guessed it – blue!

Edith Heath was a pioneer in her field and responsible for advances not just in clay, but also glaze development. Today, many of her original pieces can be found in the permanent collections of museums such as the MOMA and LACMA.
