along California’s illustrious Gold Coast, in the single most expensive home ever sold in San Francisco, lies this gorgeously crafted kitchen design by Handel Architects’ Director of Interiors, Richard Felix-Ashman. A combination of chic contemporary design balanced with rustic touches… the designer sums up the space as a true “celebration of craft.”

ALONG… the focal wall, precision cabinetry by Bulthaup boasts a fumed oak finish, which transitions to anodized aluminum along the side wall. To lighten the mass of the upper cabinets, Felix-Ashman surrounded them, on all sides, in a light Arabescato Oro stone. Fixtures and fittings provided an opportunity for unexpected contrasts, with a stainless steel skin bringing an air of modernity to a classic Lacanche range and a jewelry-like rose gold finish imbuing a pair of sleek Dornbracht faucets with a sense of warmth.

JUST OFF… the main kitchen, a hand-built, blackened steel wine room continues this exercise in contrast – showcasing an impressively aged wine collection in a precision built showcase of earthy wood paneling, sleek glass, and industrial metal.
