HAMPTONS…
developer de la Motte Schult has partnered with esteemed interior designer Tamara Magel to transform an empty Sagaponack lot into a sprawling 11 bedroom, 13 bath estate. Complete with the obligatory Hamptons pool and tennis courts, the property sits on 2.3 acres of tee-trimmed land along the enviable Hedges Lane…
A RESIDENT…of the area herself, Magel was given carte blanche and a year and a half to transform all 12,600+ sq ft of the new build into a turnkey home. The result is quintessential Magel and modern day Hamtons to a T – exuding livable luxury, grounded in an appreciation for nature and natural materials, and amped up with cutting edge art, lighting and furnishings. |
IN THE…kitchen, Magel worked in classic Hamptons whites and lights, beginning with a bleached wood floor, natural stone counters, and woven canvas chairs then accenting with a showstopping black range hood and striking contemporary-meets-vintage chandelier by Apparatus. |
THIS…play of dark and light carries through into the the dining room, which Magel clad in an inky grasscloth wallpaper then brightened with an elemental white table, a custom buffet and her signature shearling chairs. In a guest bath Magel worked in similar monochrome, this time mixing it up with a dark floor and and light walls accented with brass and blackened metal details. |
THE CHILDREN’S…bedroom enjoys a softer palette of whites, cool blues, and grays. Here natural materials and textures play a starring role, while iconic design pieces from Scandinavian masters like Kay Bojesen and Hans Wegner make appearances in the form of wooden monkeys and Wishbone Chairs. |
THE SCANDINAVIAN…meets American influence continues in the master bedroom with natural woods, fur accents and a light and airy vibe playing off a statement pair of 1950s Cobra Sconces by famed Swedish-American architect / designer Greta Magnusson Grossman. |
MAGEL…added a dose of cozy to the lofty master bedroom by painting the ceiling a velvety grey and incorporating a mix of chunky textured throws and fur accents – all perfect compliments for a nighttime nestle by the contemporary gas fireplace. |
MAGEL’S…impeccable style carries through right down to the home’s 13 unique baths – each one featuring a paned glass shower – beautifully bridging the gap between old and new as she redefines contemporary Hamptons living through her design. |
