IN 2007…
architect Deborah Berke completed a truly unique public gallery / private home for renowned gallerist Marianne Boesky. The multi use structure encompass 3,340 square feet of family and professional space, all carefully crafted to house an enviable rotation of contemporary art. Just under a decade later, Boesky called upon Deborah Berke Partners again for a refresh and the results are as unexpected as they are delightful…
LED BY…Senior Principal Caroline Wharton Ewing, the new space offers a twist on the typical Chelsea loft – exuding a decidedly Park Ave vibe with its herringbone floors, plush accoutrements, and luxe fireplace and finishes. |
IN THE…main living room, the team opted for a grasscloth wallcovering to help camouflage holes from Boesky’s art rotations. As for the dining room and lounge, they went more formal with a high gloss blue finish and rich wood paneling respectively. |
THROUGHOUT…the new space, design and art engage in a well balanced tete-a-tete, with a Yoshitomo Nara portrait playing off a Francesco Binfaré sofa, and a butterflied Damien Hirst flirting with a Kevin Walz daybed. Other pieces, like the magenta Yves Klein table, serve to completely dissolve distinction between design and art. The end result is a jewel box of an apartment that is as much a work of art as the pieces it displays. |
