THIS PAST…

Sunday marked the close of Milan Design Week 2018, and and we’ve been hard at work ever since – sifting and sorting, curating and coalescing to ensure we bring you the very best of our favorite of finds. To kick things off we’ve selected three conceptually-driven series that tugged hard at our design-loving-heart-strings. The pieces were part of a larger solo exhibition by international design brand Nendo entitled forms of movement. The show explored the inextricable connection between life and motion through the physical dialogue between man and material. The question at hand – if “a chair can be interpreted as an object that urges us to sit… when designing a chair, are we designing a product or are we designing the movement of sitting down?”

AIR LIDS…

explore innovative possibilities in kitchenware in collaboration with air conditioning manufacturer Daikin. The series of 5 lids are made from fluoroelastomer – an industry rubber known for its durable resilience, airy quality and silkier-than-silicone feel. Each unit’s unique design invites interaction in a different way – rendering them irresistible emissaries between human hand and consumable product.

SOFT POND…

evokes the graduated levels of color saturation found in an ever deepening body of water. Each vessel is comprised of tiered, flat-cut crystal running from shallow to deep in watery shades of blue. Made in collaboration with Atelier Swarovski Home.

Milan Design Week 2018 - Hourglass

 

VARIATIONS OF TIME…

re-imagines the once utilitarian hourglass in a contemporary exploration of artistic form. The series of four acrylic glasses created in collaboration with Japanese prototype company INAC, explores the relative concept of time, as colorful sands rush, flow, then creep their way through undulating voids of expanse and contraction. It’s beauties like these that have us counting the minutes to next year’s debuts!
