LOOKING FOR…
a getaway just as sophisticated and modern as their apartment in the city, a young New York couple engaged the award-winning Hamptons-based interior designer Tamara Magel to renovate their beach-side property. Known for her chic, minimalist style, the sought-after Magel brings her signature look to the spacious Hamptons home—adding an elegant nautical twist.

STARTING WITH…a neutral color palette that plays off materials and textures—the living room is a richly layered canvas beginning with Venetian plaster walls, textural horsehair sconces, a custom soapstone fireplace, a polished natural wood stump re-purposed as a side table, and cozy knit pillows on the sofa.

A SUBDUED…shade of blue covers the walls of the den—a new take on a neutral tone that also serves reference to the home’s beach-side locale and proves that minimalism does not always have to mean white.

MINIMALIST SENSIBILITIES…resurface again in the kitchen—white with pops of stainless steel and the added earthiness of wood. The shiny silver of the Thomas O’Brien pendant lighting above the kitchen island pairs perfectly with the sleek Contralto bar stools, while the exposed wood beam ceiling and the hardwood floors give the entire room a warm and welcoming vibe.

NAUTICAL FEELS…are picked up in the dining room through ocean-inspired artwork, the rope-like Lariat light fixture from Apparatus, and a textured rug—all a definite and lovely homage to the sea.

A DREAMLIKE…state is achieved in the master bedroom where neutral tones and natural elements continue to play a strong role. An unexpected pom pom light fixture and a rustically elegant Elizabeth Dow tree stump coffee table add a polished, yet outdoorsy feel to the home, while lounge chairs upholstered in a Breton stripe-like fabric again reference the sea.
A SENSE OF…luxury surfaces in the material choices for the master bath. Elegant black walls juxtaposed against a marble sink with illumination provided by Guenther Leuchtmann-designed Le tre streghe pendant lights. The perfect final touch for a seaside escape with a smart sense of style.
