SET IN…
the heart of Charleston, this 2,000 square foot carriage house known historically as the “Bee Store” has recently undergone a meticulous renovation by the Brooklyn and Charleston-based Workstead Design Studio. Father and son team Jim & Chris Sloggatt not only purchased, but personally renovated the project, while artisan woodworker and collaborator Clay Richardson scribed wood around the old bricks, built elegant cabinets, and clad the vertical surfaces in native Cypress planks.

THE KITCHEN…boasts a Lacanche range, and masters the efficient use of space by placing cabinetry underneath the stair case. The smooth black cabinetry featuring handcrafted wood pulls perfectly offsets the exposed brick wall beyond as well as the facing white marble island top. A simple, yet elegant Workstead Signal light fixture and brass faucet fittings add the perfect complements to the room.

GORGEOUSLY…crafted cabinets grace the walls in the dining room, giving both sustenance and an air of lightness afforded by the caned doors, while exposed brick and rafters throughout pay homage to the original structure. The rooms, devoid of window and floor treatments, along with simple furnishings, allow the interior architecture to dominate – enabling the true sprit of the Bee Store to shine.
