FLORENCE…
based architecture and design firm Gori & Yoon have designed a dreamy oasis as a retreat from Milan’s bustling streets. Awash in soothing neutrals and gentle geometries, the site is optimally located in a spacious historic home on Italy’s Via Lovanio – just a stones throw from Porta Garibaldi train station.
THE BRIEF…
for the interior was to create a “perfect harmony” between the existing interior architecture and a more forward looking approach to interior design. The team set the stage with a unifying, floor-to-ceiling coat of dove grey paint and an informal expanse of pale wood parquet.
IN THE…
living room, the neutral palette is punctuated by a 1950s-inspired moss green sofa by Tacchini. The sofa’s curved form is complemented by a pair of 1970s Pacha Chairs and topped with a contemporary Cloud Chandelier by Apparatus. In the background, a pair of Hideout Chairs from Gebrüder Thonet Vienna mix classic cane and bentwood craftsmanship with contemporary form.
IN THE…
dining room, designers Gori and Yoon again tapped the century-plus old brand Gebrüder Thonet for an eclectic mix of sculptural bent wood and cane chairs. Just above, an Apparatus Trapeze Chandelier brings a dose of industrial glamour to the room while across the way a series of sleek marble shelves offers a modern twist on the classic wood built-in.
MIRRORING…
the clean lines of its original coffered ceiling, the new kitchen is outfitted in swaths of crisp-edged Calacatta gold marble and hardware-less natural oak cabinetry. A second, less formal, dining room lies just beyond the kitchen’s paned glass doors where a Piero Lissoni dining table and Danish Modern PK9 chairs are illuminated by a vintage French lamp.
THE UNIFYING…
pale wood and cool grey palette is carried through to the master bedroom where an airy headboard echoes the cane and bentwood motif seen in the more public areas of the home. In the far corners of the bedroom, a 1960s lamp and chair sit in dialogue with a Serge Mouille chandelier, while a classic dentil molding whispers of the homes past – framing it out in perfect harmony.
