Conceived as an unabashedly personal space by Chad Dorsey Studio, one might be surprised that this is where the day-to-day messy work takes place in the Beauchene household.

entering a cabinet of curiosities, an assemblage of objects greets you as one steps through a black lacquered, cased opening, into a work-from-home nook. An inset arch in the wall cradles a plush white sofa, sitting in harmony with a sculptural table and a pair of wicker and walnut accent chairs. The alcove provides a moment of pause, with a pair of miniature portraits and an Apparatus Studio table lamp draws the eye outdoors. Just above, a bird motif-ed wallpaper from Trove spans the full ceiling – also in dialogue with the garden beyond.

for an aesthetic best described as relaxed luxury, Dorsey uses a muted palette, custom, handcrafted details and meaningful objects to imbue a space with a sense of the people who live in it.

eclecticism runs throughout the prep kitchen with custom brass work finding its way onto a kitchen island, custom shelving, and a tapered kitchen hood; here the industrial nature of the metal contrasts with more traditional style millwork in a pale Puritan Gray by Benjamin Moore, evoking an English sensibility. A mix of imported artworks, copper kitchenware, delicate stemware and cherished mementos collected while on board the clients’ yacht in the Côte d’Azur, serve to further personalize the space.

a series of masterfully composed dioramas, each aspect in the prep kitchen provides visual interest and tells a story that’s rooted in the Beauchene’s tastes and connoisseurship, rendered in a mix of bespoke cabinetry, ironmongery, stone, and paint.
