NESTLED IN…
the East Hampton hamlet of Amagansett, lies Jessica Helgerson’s beachy renovation of a once ordinary shingled house. Led by Helgerson’s right hand woman, Chelsie Lee, in collaboration with Manhattan based TBD Architecture, the summer house was inspired by a fresh Scandinavian aesthetic and the on-point style of of the home’s new owners. The result is nothing short of a Hamptons haven sure to have you feeling summer all over…

UPON ENTRY…a high contrast black door welcomes guests into a light and airy foyer. On the right, a simple shaker-style bench offers practical seating while on the left, a custom credenza takes pride of place in a Scandinavian mix of fresh grey paint, pale wood, and leather detailing.

OVER THE COURSE…of the design process, floor plans were significantly altered as rooms were swapped and walls were taken down. The kitchen in particular gained valuable real estate by expanding out onto a former screened-in-porch. The designers furthered this added expanse with a bright, low-contrast color scheme and leggy, open-based island. In the dining room a Trapeze chandelier by Apparatus takes center stage, before doors open onto an outdoor living space.

A RESTRAINED…palette of white paint, pale natural woods, marble and brass accents are applied throughout the home’s 3,000 square foot expanse. In the living room, this casual scheme serves as a subtle backdrop to a collection of iconic contemporary and Danish modern pieces including Rich Brilliant Willing’s Excel Floor Lamp and Hans Wegner’s 1950s Sawbuck Chair.

WHILE THE…interior palette was kept to a subtle minimum, the design team added interest and drama via moments of expanding and contracting space. This is perhaps best exemplified by the cozy, tucked-away sitting nooks that the design team interspersed with areas of dramatic expanse.

IN THE END…from the flagstone path that leads to the home’s white shingled facade to the dining room that spills out onto a hydrangea-framed porch out back – take it from this East Coast native, this is Hamptons living at its most beautiful and understated best. Bravo Jessica, Lee, & TBD!
