KNOWN FOR…
her sophisticated sense of organic minimalism, Mar Silver’s approach to design revolves around a ‘home as sanctuary’ ideal. While her interiors reflect an unwavering love for clean-line architecture, Silver excels at adding warmth and soul via layers of luxurious materials, finishes, furnishings and art. It’s just this aesthetic that finds Silver’s Connecticut-based firm in ever increasing demand…
WHEN TAPPED…with the task of transforming this near 20-year-old Southport beach home, Silver made fast work of paring back excesses in the form of green painted shingles and red finished floors, while simultaneously preserving elements of value including the original wood ceiling beams and locally sourced stone fireplace surround. |
IN THE…living room, Silver clad the original brick fireplace in Cristallo stone while taking care to maintain a small reveal as a nod to the home’s past. To the right of this, the designer implemented a sculptural open shelving system to achieve a sense of flow from room to room while doubling as a buffet and display case. |
MAINTAINING…a focus on casual coastal living, the design team opened up the interior as much as possible – taking down walls and applying glass to capitalize on light filled views. The original dark floors were replaced with light knotted oak, and cold-rolled steel detailing was applied as both an accent finish and contemporary alternative to traditional molding. |
IN THE…master suite, Silver’s minimal, yet layered, approach shines bright with luxuriously textured Calvin Fabrics playing off sleek walls in soothing shades of blue-grey. Tucked just beyond the main bedroom lies a clean-lined hall of stained oak built ins – a perfect microcosm of Silver’s signature soulful modern approach to a truly timeless design. |
