CRISTINA…
Espejo and Marta Goyanes first met while studying interior architecture at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. There they forged a bond while working under the tutelage of celebrated designer Luisa Olazábal, only to later set out on their own in 2010 as Espejo y Goyanes – a Madrid-based design firm specializing in luxury interiors for well heeled clientele. In the ensuing years this burgeoning duo have become talents to watch, and their most recent project has us Iberian dreaming all day long.
SITUATED…
in an elevated location in the exclusive residential neighborhood of Conde Ogaz, Madrid, this Spanish oasis enjoys lush green surrounds while remaining a stones throw from the city’s capital center. Originally built in 1981, the home received a thorough Espejo y Goyanes redesign and renovation, with a focus on creating an updated and welcoming space for living and entertaining.
UPON…
entry, residents and guests are greeted by an eclectic mix of modern accents, rustic antiques, and stunning period art. With few exceptions, monochrome dominates the interior palette and the designer’s commitment to eclecticism is carried through from entry into the main living area where a pair of mid-century Italian lounge chairs play off a statement making 1960s Olivier Mourgue chaise lounge.
ALONG…
the far wall of the living room, a restored marble fireplace enjoys a flood of natural light from a pair of new windows. The design decision creates a dialog between indoors and out – washing the interior with sun while highlighting verdant garden views.
Towards…
the heart of the home lies an airy white dining space punctuated by a collection of black 1950s Chiavari dining chairs and an Italian 19th century folding screen. The kitchen continues this black and white scheme via a mix of Spanish limestone in Blanca Paloma, Campaspero, and Sierra Elvira. The latter two make up the geometric floor pattern that runs from the kitchen into the “office” – an informal dining area often found in Spanish homes.
OUT BACK…
a well sheltered yard and pool complete Espejo y Goyanes’ vision as an extension of the main home’s design – offering an inviting space for lounging and entertaining – a true oasis in the heart of Spain.
