it’s what’s on the inside that sets a house apart. For a family of four designing their ideal home in Charleston, South Carolina, it was important to blend in with their historic waterfront neighborhood’s neoclassical architecture. At the same time, the couple, who founded an accessories startup, were eager to keep the interior of the home modern. Enter Courtney Bishop, the Charleston-based designer with an affinity for edgy-yet-sophisticated interiors. Pairing a neutral color scheme with avant-garde geometric furnishings and textiles, Bishop designed an inviting home that brings a fresh look to antebellum Charleston.

this fusion of rooms, Bishop paired textures in both spaces, encouraging guests to move from one room to the other. Likewise, timeless shiplap in the reading room and Hygge & West wallpaper in the downstairs powder room reference traditional style.

homage to the city’s historic style, this Charleston residence is a modern breath of fresh air. By mixing classic Southern details with eclectic patterns and unique furnishings, Bishop has created an innovative and hospitable home perfectly tailored to its newest inhabitants.
