AWARD…

winning interior architect Arjaan De Feyter creates ‘Architecture from the soul’, homing in on the personality and history of each client to create highly customized interiors. His work is marked by a focus on the essential – a stripping away of all that is unnecessary while maintaining a reverence for the beauty of materials and well placed details…

A SHINING…

example of this aesthetic is De Feyter’s interior transformation of a new canal-side duplex apartment.  Entitled Cube Apartment V-S, the residence is situated within one of four new housing blocks that make up a small portion of a larger revitalization project led by Brussels-based architects Bogdan & Van Broeck for client Axel Vervoordt.

LOCATED…

along the Albert canal on the outskirts of Antwerp, the former industrial area now serves host to a unique array of galleries, shopping, health, living and working spaces – all designed to encourage original and efficient use of the area’s anti-cookie cutter spaces.

BUILDING…

upon this ethos of unique solutions, De Feyter and his client began with a shell of an apartment. The client requested a clean contemporary interior outfitted with warm materials, crafted with a focus on quality and detail. To achieve this, De Feyter applied a well edited palette of light knotted woods, warm brass, grey stone, and lots of warm white and pale plaster.

ON THE…

lower level, the designer created a custom wood kitchen complete with island and dining bar. Just a few feet away, floor to ceiling curtains help soften the edges and highlight a spectacular picture window. In the living room, a wall of wood built-ins add warmth and function. On the upper level De Feyter brought the wood underfoot and delineated the master bedroom with the addition of a glassed in bath complete with just the right amount of earthy detail. Accenting it all are simple blackened metal light fixtures that serve to define each area as one space flows effortlessly into the next. Heaven.
