Inspired by her nation’s unique heritage, designer Chaehoon Moon has launched a new line of tableware that connects traditional Korean culture and craft with the aesthetics of modern day life. Entitled Damoon, the stunning collection of plates and vessels is hewn from enduring materials intended for generations of use.

To bring her designs to life, Chaehoon Moon tapped master yuhgee and ott-chil craftsmen. Yuhgee is a traditional Korean bronzeware with a uniquely high ratio of tin to copper. This ratio imbues it with a beautiful subtle sheen, heat and cold preserving properties and the ability to be sterilized – qualities that secured its position as the traditional tableware of Korean royalty and noblemen. Furthering its historical appeal, Yuhgee goes by the name “bowl of life” due to the metal’s tendency to turn black upon contact with toxic ingredients. Applied as decoration atop the Yuhgee bronzeware, Ott-chil is an all natural lacquer derived from the sap of the Ott-tree. Valued for its excellent resilience against wear, and elegant color – ott-chil is considered the very best lacquer for tableware throughout Korea, Japan and China.

New Moon line
The Damoon collection is divided into two lines – FULL MOON and NEW MOON – the former exhibits the fuller rounder curves of traditional Korean tableware and the latter a more clean line modern look. We’re proud to announce that Damoon is now available through shop.thedpages.com.
