In celebration of renowned Danish furniture designer Hans J. Wegner’s 100th birthday – the Denmark based company PP Møbler will launch a chair that has stood in obscurity since 1953. The soon to launch Tub chair, which has recently been assigned the number 530 in accordance with Wegner’s preferred method of nomenclature, is a melding of complicated double bent plywood shells, traditional woodwork, upholstery, and a metal adjustment mechanism which allows for various levels of repose.
Precocious to say the least, the Tub is touted as the most advanced of Wegner’s shell chair experiments, which culminated in 1986 with the finalized design of his Circle chair.
While at the time, limitations in mid century technology rendered commercial scale production of the Tub unfeasible, PP Møbler has ingeniously applied 21st century advances to bring Wegner’s 61 year old dream into the homes of Danish Modern lovers everywhere.
The Tub chair will make its debut tomorrow, April 8th at the MC Selvini showroom as part of Salone del Mobile’s 2014 events in Milan. And is slated to be available through PP Møbler.
