NESTLED IN…a conservation area in the heart of London, lies the Lambeth Marsh House – a modest two story row home, originally developed by John Palmer Roupell in the 1820s for the purpose of housing local artisans. The charmingly modest structure had stood unoccupied for over a decade when Fraher Architects arrived on scene with a brief to breathe new life into its historical interiors. |
THE REVAMP…centered around both renovation and restoration – beginning with plans for a glass roofed extension designed to open up and increase interior space from 120 square meters to 260 square meters. |
IN THE BATH…two custom mirrors hang above a bespoke, grain matched European oak vanity. |
AS FOR THE RESTORATION…and interior outfitting aspects of the project, these were a collaboration between Fraher Architects and their in-house joinery partner, Shape London. Resulting highlights range from restored 19th century fireplaces and wood paneling to contemporary built-in shelving and cabinetry. |
TODAY…the Lambeth Marsh House stands as a fantastic example of history born anew through architecture and design – a fresh yet sensitive balance between historical preservation and the changing aesthetic and spacial demands of contemporary life. |
