A photo of Carly holding one of her specimens.

These fantastically meticulous oil paintings by the Toronto based artist and designer, Carly Waito, are inspired by her lifelong fascination with the natural world – “especially the little parts we feel compelled to pick up and keep”. Her subjects of focus are tiny mineral specimens, which she magnifies in size many times over so their detail and beauty may be appreciated from a distance. Carly’s paintings are represented in Toronto by Narwhal Art Projects. The majority of her works are done on masonite or panel, and range in size from 8 – 14″ in height and width.  Carly is also a co-founder of the coe&waito ceramic studio, which until 2009 produced a line of beautiful ceramic products. Currently, coe&waito has shifted its focus to work only on special commission projects.
