NOURISHED BY…
a fascination with technology and a passion for art nouveau, deco, and contemporary aesthetics, artist Thierry Toutin’s works-in-light defy period and style. Beginning with amorphous ideas, Toutin works out his designs on paper until they are developed enough to build. From there, he takes on the role of designer, cabinetmaker, electrician and IT engineer, as he problem-solves, polishes, and buffs each piece to life. This rather soulful, handmade process renders each fixture a unique work of art. Shown here are a few of Toutin’s pieces that just might make you dream…
ALMOST…religious in its votive-like presentation, Toutin’s versatile DOTS sculpture looks as beautiful on a mantel as it does running down the center of a dining table. |
EMERGING…like an extra-terrestrial strain of luminous sproutlings, Toutin’s Germes de Lux is his poetic answer the question, “How does light arise.” |
JULES ET GUSTAVE…is a magical nod to two of Toutin’s idols – Jules Verne for his fantastical literary imagination and Gustave Eiffel for his visionary works in architecture. |
VERSAILLES SPIRIT…endeavors to distill the chandelier-laden ambiance of the famed Galerie des Glaces into a single mirrored capsule. |
FAIRWAY…combines nature and technology in a small grass-filled terrarium. Look closely, and you will find tiny LEDs interspersed amongst the blades – like glimmering drops of dew. |
