As many of you may know, Milan Design Week is underway and I have my eyes peeled to bring you some of the the coolest and most beautiful designs from the event. Today we are starting strong with Babushka, by the Finland based glass designer Heikki Viinikainen. This gorgeous prototype is the result of Vinikainen’s participation in the Glass is Tomorrow program. Sponsored by the Culture Program of the European Union, Glass is Tomorrow aims to promote a high level of craft by encouraging dialogue between talented glass designers and blowers in a series of workshops (running June 2011 – May 2013). Thus far, the workshops have been held in the traditional glass blowing areas of Nuutajärvi – Finland, Prague – Czech Republic, and Meisenthal – France. Additional prototypes from the Glass is Tomorrow program are currently on display at Most Salone from April 9th to the 14th.
