Objet Préféré (Favorite Objects) is a collection of 15 furnishings created by a cross-disciplinary group of Fabrica* scholarship students in collaboration with the Grand-Hornu Images cultural centre in Belgium. The unique pieces took inspiration from favorite objects as diverse as knives, train journeys, jewels, books, and beer glasses. Upon completion, the quirky yet forward-thinking furnishings were displayed in a whitewashed room within the centuries old mining complex of Hornu, where the old and new, artistic and functional, all fell beautifully into place.
* Fabrica is a communication research centre in Treviso, Italy and an integral part of the fashion brand Benetton Group. Established by Luciano Benetton in 1994, each year the centre offers a series of one year scholarships to young “social catalysts” in the diverse fields of journalism, design, music, photography and more. The aim of the program is to inspire young and talented thinkers to one day bring about change through their own personal careers.
