Swedish designer Staffan Holm has just introduced a sprightly new chair inspired by the manner in which branches attach to a tree trunk. Aptly named the Branch chair, the deceptively simple seat is actually one of the most technically challenging chairs ever made. The designer describes the “Compwood” technology responsible for its creation as “a method where heated wood is… compressed lengthwise making the fibers very flexible and bendable.” Bravo Staffan for making the difficult look oh so easy.
