Tim Lamp for BOMMA - Paris Design Week

When the local glass factory in Svetla closed its doors after over a century of glass making, Bomma’s founder Jiri Trtik took it upon himself to build his own factory to employ the skilled craftsmen and engineers who suddenly found themselves without work. Today, just three years after its opening, Bomma is making a name for itself by combining old-world craftsmanship and innovative technology with cutting edge contemporary design. Oh, and did I mention they boast the clearest crystal in all the Czech Republic? Well apparently they do that too. Exhibiting at this month’s Maison&Object 2015 (as part of Paris Design Week) Bomma blew us away with the unveiling of their new TIM collection. Simple in concept but big on impact, TIM was created in collaboration with designers Michal Fronek and Jan Nemecek of studio Olgoj Chorchoj. The line consists of two extra large pendants and three cloche-like domes, which tap into the glassmakers’ skill and strength with the largest globe weighing in at close to 50 lbs. Due to the hand-blown process of creation, each TIM is entirely unique. I could go on, but sometimes it’s best to just take it all in…
