Paris Design Week just wrapped up, and with it we dive into D’s reviews – sharing the very best of what was on show. Easing our way into what will be a full week of coverage, we begin with Le Royal Monceau – Raffles Paris who participated in the design festivities by serving host to artist / scenographer, Hubert le Gall’s recently completed Glass Calendar. Originally born of a collaboration between le Gall and the world’s oldest champagne house, Ruinart, the concept behind the 12 sculptural pieces celebrates the cycles of nature and work of man on the vineyards of Champagne. Each piece depicts a single month over the course of a single year and together they render an ageless story of time, cast in hand blown glass. When it came time to translate this fanciful narrative to life, Ruinart and le Gall tapped an ‘ancestral expertise’ as old as the champagne house itself by commissioning the renowned Murano glass makers of the Berengo Studio. The end result – a splashing, sparkling and bubbling feast for the eyes and a picture-perfect pop off to a very French celebration of design.
