Meet my latest obsession – Bookmark – by London based design firm, Paul Cocksedge Studio. Shown above is the marble edition, originally commissioned for Wallpaper’s 2012 Handmade exhibit, which is now available to you and me through the Paul Cocksedge Shop online.
Cut from a solid block of Greek marble, hand selected by Paul himself, the stone Bookmarks are available in two sizes – table (L 11.8 x W 4.5 x H 10.8 inches) and floor (L 11.8 x W 8.7 x H 39 inches).
The design studio explains Bookmark as follows, “It is everything a bookmark is not: heavy to lift, difficult to carry, bigger than the book itself – and stunning to look at. As a result of this counter-intuitive approach, Marble Bookmark radically changes the book as an object, making it an active part of the surrounding space, almost an object of veneration on its rocking altar.”
Fortunately for those of us looking for something a little lighter (both physically and monetarily) there is a smaller and lighter table version available in PVC coated wood.
At (L 8.7 x W 3.9 x H 9.6 inches) it comes in the three colors shown here.
And now a little about the brains behind it all… The internationally acclaimed, London based, Paul Cocksedge Studio is directed by Royal College of Art graduates, Paul Cocksedge and Joana Pinho.
It is said that Paul brings the dynamic creativity while Joana brings the strategic leadership. Either way, with ten years of practice under their belts and having done work for the likes of Swarovski, Hermes and BMW, it seems they are doing something very right.
Recently the practice has created two teams, one to focus on the spatial and architectural projects, for which Paul Cocksedge has become so well know, and the other to focus on the new online Paul Cocksedge Shop, where you can find an ever growing range of exclusive products including lighting, objets d’art, techy gadgets and more.
