Smeg Toaster

Founded over 65 years ago by Vittorio Bertazzoni in Norther Italy, SMEG has gone on to become one of the world’s most recognized home appliance manufacturers. Pulling from their humble beginnings as 19th century blacksmiths, the Bertazzoni family soon branched out into building cookers. From there, a laundry and dishwasher range was born and by the mid 1970s the company was partnering with internationally renowned architects and designers – which would go on to include the likes of Guido Canali, Marc Newson and Giancarlo Candeago. Today, SMEG is perhaps best known for the colorful 1950s style refrigerators they brought to market in the 1990s. Most recently, in what is likely a response to the popularity of these now iconic fridges, SMEG has launched a new line of 1950s-style small appliances designed in collaboration with architects Matteo Bazzicalupo and Raffaella Mangiarotti of Deepdesign. The colorful new collection includes a toasters, kettlesblenders, and – just in time for baking season – stand mixers. Shown here are a couple of D’s favorites, which are now available through West Elm. Loving the stainless steel toaster!
