The Stockholm Furniture Fair wrapped up last week and D has some favorites to share. First up is Armadillo by Heleen Sintobin, a student at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, who exhibited as part of the schools Spot On show. The idea behind the design is that while each body is unique, designers have historically imposed a standard to how a user should sit and use their furniture. To challenge this system, Heleen created a malleable piece armored in 2,000 connected leather rounds. As she puts it, “This makes the design very flexible, and the user will feel the structure adapt to their body’s shape. When the user gets up, he leaves a personal mark in the landscape [of the] furniture.” Armadillo is not in production at the moment but the designer may be reached via her contact info here. Who wouldn’t love to get their hands on such a tactile piece?
