LAST YEAR…
Peter Eland of Norm Architects, led a groundbreaking renovation of an abandoned merchant’s house/trading post in Copenhagen’s industrial district of Nordhavnen. The project was a collaboration between Eland, Nathan Williams of Kinfolk, and MENU’s founder Bjarne Hansen. Now know as The Audo, the former residence stands re-imagined as a hybrid creative space – part work headquarters, part cafe, part home – for Danish design brand MENU.
BUILT IN…
the early days of modernism, the original Neo-Baroque residence featured a classic facade and industrial interior. The design team drew on this history, elevating the sparse interiors with a rich, organic palette. In the lounge and cafe, the building’s main social space, wood accents and elegant furnishings complement concrete floors and walls. The result is a space that feels as design-forward as it is welcoming, encouraging socializing and collaboration.
BEHIND…
the lounge, a grand staircase leads to the MENU concept store. Here, the brand’s catalogue of furniture, lighting, and accessories is presented organically, alongside an ever-changing selection of curated artwork and appurtenances, bolstering a natural and relaxing shopping experience for guests.
THE INTIMATE…
experience continues upstairs in The Audo’s boutique hotel, where each of the ten rooms is adorned with pieces from MENU’s portfolio, as well as unique objects commissioned specifically for the hotel. Here, guests can unwind and experience the brand in a more personal environment.
FROM ITS…
earliest days as a home/trading port, this Copenhagen gem has blurred the lines between work and life. With a restaraunt due to open soon, The Audo has built on this legacy to create an encompassing experience that celebrates all aspects of life, from work to repose and everything between.
