The Destination Landing

Selldorf Architects Double Level Library

WELCOME…

to Selldorf Architects‘ solution to connecting an Upper East Side duplex with a newly purchased space below. The challenge set forth by the client was to combine the upper levels with the new lower level in an elegant way – a task more challenging than one might think considering the new space’s extra high ceilings (i.e. going upstairs shouldn’t look or feel like a mountain climb). Selldorf’s solution – split the staircase in two with a cozy mezzanine / library as a break along the way. Such a great architectural statement, sure to be even more incredible as the room continues to fill up. For those who have staircases and some extra space… adding a destination landing is definitely something to consider.
