Since the incandescent bulb was introduced in 1835, no other bulb has matched its ability to transform a room. Unfortunately, this tried and true form of illumination lacks in efficiency and thus is slated to be outlawed in the US by 2014. In comes SWITCH Bulb Company, with the SWITCH lightbulb – a beautifully designed LED, with true incandescent quality light. The bulbs, which will cost approx $20, come in 40, 60, 75, and 100 watt equivalents that turn on instantly, dim and last 25 times longer than incandescent bulbs, all while providing that warm glow we love so much. The SWITCH bulb was recently selected as one of Time Magazine’s 50 Best Inventions of 2011 and was also named as a CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Award Honoree. The bulbs are expected to become available later this year.
