NETHERLANDS…
born, London based designer Tord Boontje has teamed up with the Austrian crystal experts at Swarovski to debut a fresh new take on crystal and light. Entitled Luminous Reflections, the new series is comprised of three groundbreaking pure crystal components – Arc, Swirl, Circle – and four fixtures designed to incorporate these components – Luminous Bough, Lustrous Aura, Shimmering Jewel, Radiant Light.
HAVING…worked with Swarovski for 15 years, Boontje approached this project with an eye for innovation – seeing an opportunity to reinvent what the future of crystal could be… |
HIS APPROACH…was based in extensive research of Swarovski’s century of archives – testing a near endless array of forms and how each one interacts with light. Boontje explains, “I wanted a ‘soft light’ effect; the quality of light you see in a misty or snowy landscape or on a lake as dancing light reflections.” His solution truly breaks the mold, as it takes the hard-cut edge out of traditional crystal – re-imagining it in organic fluid-like drops. |
THE SERIES…is part of a larger relaunch of Swarovski’s Crystal Palace collection – an experimental platform founded in 2002 that invites design luminaries to push the boundaries of lighting through the medium of cut crystal. The 17 un-archived pieces, including works by Fredrikson Stallard, Tord Boontje, Yves Behar, Vincent Van Duysen and Diller Scofidio + Renfro, have all been updated with cutting edge technologies – now incorporating lead-free Advanced Crystal and the latest in LED. |
The crystal palace collection, including Boontje’s Luminous Reflections, will be available through Swarovski’s sales teams and selected retailers.
