A Warm Modern Tribeca Apartment by Tamara Magel

PERCHED ABOVE…

the bustling streets of Tribeca in one of the area’s most iconic turn of the century warehouses, lives a flawlessly appointed interior by New York designer Tamara Magel. The property itself was recently transformed by BKSK architects to house an array of luxury condos – each one outfitted with striking triple-paned windows from Germany, light filled interiors, and layouts designed with both entertaining and privacy in mind. Faced with a striking if spare shell, Magel transformed the spacious interior in her signature mix of minimal color, maximal texture, and an abundance of showstopping custom detail…

THE MAIN…

living area is anchored by a wall of custom built-ins in bleached-white-maple, accented in swaths of darkened brass hardware. Across the way, an oversized navy sofa puts a modern twist on the classic tuft, while an angular tête-à-tête is softened with lushly textured fabric. In the dining room, a Lindsey Adelman chandelier takes pride of place over a weighty wood dining table and woven dining chairs by Craft Associates.

A SCULPTURAL…

curation of gems mark both the main entry and kitchen entry with a console by Holly Hunt, ceiling light by Lindsey Adelman, table lamp by Dan Yeffet, and censer by Apparatus. Just around the corner, a dark walnut pantry marks entry to a white and Calacatta Gold marble kitchen by Christopher Peacock. The monochrome space complements Magel’s restrained color scheme while adding a dose of glitz via sleek metal details.

MAGEL TOOK…

the opportunity to apply additional high shine drama in this jewel box of a powder room complete with a Louis Weisdorf 1970s Multi Light and sculptural marble sink. While sleek marble covers half of the room’s surface, a textured charcoal wallpaper adds contrast and keeps the space from feeling too cold.

A CUSTOM…

walnut office offers a warm respite from the home’s otherwise light/bright color scheme with its mix of rich classic materials rendered in a clean-lined modernism. In the bedroom, Magel carries through this signature blend of warm modernism via a generously sized custom bed topped in layers of Sferra Linens, a fur throw, and a smattering of warm brass accents from Apparatus – a truly perfect wrap to this dreamy oasis in the heart of lower Manhattan.
