AWARD…
winning ceramicist Fenella Elms introduced a stunning new work of art at this year’s Decorex – a design and interiors exhibit that celebrates exceptional quality and craftsmanship in design. The event which wrapped up this Sunday, was part of London’s annual Design Festival, where Fenella’s Round Flow was one of our favorite finds. The piece is a continuation on a porcelain disc language that Elms has been developing for years but stands apart in its unique metal-framed circular configuration.
FENELLA DESCRIBES…her work as a study of rhythms and patterns – qualities she revels in noticing in the bees, fish, ducks and sheep she studies in the heart of the English countryside. While Fenella maintains she doesn’t directly recreate her observations, one can see echoes of everything from swarming bees to wind tousled feathers in her swirling works of art. |
ACCORDING…
to the artist, her finished pieces are, “a mix of the familiar and strangeness…” grounded in a celebration of contrasts where porcelain’s fragility and strength, rigidity and plasticity coexist in one beautifully undulating whole.
